Fundraising through a garden party

Poised to springclean the Station!
Friends of Froward Point

In addition to the volunteer watchkeepers, there is a small army of volunteer Friends of Froward Point which organises a number of worthwhile projects and events, raising funds for the Station, arranging social activities and ordering uniforms for the watchkeepers.

Summer Events
Royal Avenue Gardens

We were most disappointed to have to postpone our big summer event in the Royal Avenue Gardens on Friday, 11 July due to a poor weather outlook. We apologise to all those who put on their kagools and came along, only to find us absent. We have re-arranged the same event for Friday, 12 September and just hope for more settled weather.

Kingswear Regatta – Sunday, 10 August, Jubilee Park, Kingswear
We shall be selling some of our Ladies Accessories and some splendid home made toys from our watchkeeper John Ellerby – plus a display about the Lookout at Froward Point.

Stoke Fleming Village Fair – afternoon, Monday 25 August
We shall be selling more of our Ladies Accessories! and be running a game or two, plus perhaps some cakes.

2007
A number of events were held last year. £350 was raised over a sunny Easter at Froward Point itself where tea and refreshments were served to walkers who could also purchase assorted items such as postcards or car stickers.

In June one of the Friends made their rather splendid garden available for a fund-raising event which included serving cream tea, a wander round the garden, some games and some plants for sale – £220 was raised in just threee hours.

Bric a brac and hand made childrens' toys were sold at the Galmpton Gooseberry Pie Fair and despite terrible weather £360 was raised. Table top games were organised at the Kingswear Regatta and at the Stoke Fleming Fair in August netting a profit of £280.

Collecting boxes in the local shops, pubs and clubs generally yield £2,000 per annum which demonstrates the extensive support given to the Friends by the local community. All funds raised are used for the Lookout and has enabled new and important equipment to be provided.
