Friends of Froward Point
In addition to the volunteer watchkeepers, there is a small army of volunteer Friends of Froward Point which organises a number of events and social activities to raise funds to go towards the cost of running the watchstation. Stoke Fleming Fair – Monday 29 August Games and tables selling bric-a-brac, hand made toys, paintings, etc. 2010 Although the watch-keepers give their time (and expenses) freely, it costs more than £8,000 to maintain and run the Watch Station at Froward Point. The Friends had a very successful year raising some £4,390. £1,900 of this was generated from the events organised throughout the year. In addition we were fortunate to receive sponsorship from the Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir who gave a wonderful concert in the Pengelly Hall at the Torquay Museum. The Greenway Ferry Company kindly gave us the use of their boat The Fairmile and an evening trip around Torbay was arranged with an on-board picnic and jazz band. These two events raised £1,477, and were enjoyed by all who attended, The Friends also have several charity collection boxes in local businesses, these have generated £931. This year we have been adopted by Sainsbury’s, Brixham Road, Paignton as their "Chosen Charity of the Year". This will allow the Friends to arrange various fund raising events at the store, in addition to the separate fund raising that the staff undertake on our behalf.
