EYES ALONG THE COAST

Carrying a Torch for Safety at Sea

Frank Allen, a newly qualified watchkeeper and former Commonwealth Games athlete, carried the torch in Torquay on Day 2 of the Olympic Torch Relay. “Although the Olympic Torch Relay is travelling 8,000 miles around the United Kingdom, I doubt if it will stop at any of our 46 coastal lookout stations,” he said. “So I thought I’d put that right by bringing my torch along to do a 4-hour watch with me!”
